antiquity description

Gustave Vidal (1895-1966), Amaranthes in bloom, pond of Berre.

Oil on canvas framed and signed.
View: height 36 cm, width 44 cm.
Frame: 6.5 cm.

Born in 1895 in Avignon, Gustave VIDAL is a marine and landscape painter. Laureate of the "Beaux Arts d'Avignon" where he obtained many awards. He participates in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he is a member. He paints landscapes of Provence, Camargue, Corsica and Ardèche. As this oil painting shows, he is today undeniably one of the best great Provencal landscape painters of the early 20th century. An excellent colourist, he models the paste with a knife like no one before and his compositions are always admirably well balanced. VIDAL's painting is alive and above all terribly Provencal.
