Ferdinand BARBEDIENNE (1810-1852) after Antoine-Louis BARYE (1795-1875)
A pair oflarge antique-style torchères in patinated and gilded bronze.
Five oil-lamp-shaped light arms, tripod base with griffin protuberances and openwork foliage.
Thefluted shaft is supported by a female bust crowned with pine cones.
Thewhole is surmounted by a stork.
Signed F. Barbedienne.
Around 1850.
This model is similar to the one created by Antoine-Louis BARYE (1795-1875), a famous 19th-century animal sculptor. The perched stork is a recurring motif in this artist's compositions.
