Magnificent suite of four gondola chairs in mahogany and mahogany veneer.
Rounded backrests with carved decoration.
Seat with frame, front leg in hock, rear leg in sabre.
Stamped MARCUS and JALLOT.
Varnished in our workshop.
Striped silk looked at by an upholsterer on a loom.
Around 1830.
Seat height 42 cm, backrest 80 cm, width 46 cm, seat depth 40 cm.

MARCUS: furniture carpenter who ran a factory in Paris, he was in rue Amelot between 1827 and 1842 - but already under the Consulate and the Empire, he had invented a sofa with an arched cheeked backrest which bore his name. At the exhibition of the Pavillon de Marsan in 1930, there was a pair of lemon tree chairs from the Château des Tuileries.

JALLOT Alexandre : manufacturer of chairs, armchairs and furniture. He worked successively at 4, rue d'Hauteville, 58, rue des Marais-Saint-Martin, 42, rue de la Tour d'Auvergne, quai Voltaire, and 14, rue Marais-Saint Germain. Official orders for the Conservation of Crown Furniture in 1838.
